What is your background?
I’m a 57-year-old Christian man from Michigan. From the time I was old enough to walk, I have been interested in the way things work; electrical, mechanical, chemical, etc.… For my entire working life in the technology sector, I have focused on improvements in efficiency, in quality, in removing errors and rework, and in eliminating redundancy. I have worked on hardware designs ranging from brushless motor controllers to industrial lasers to PC motherboards to military ground vehicles. I’ve done software development from drivers and plugins for video editing equipment to PC BIOS to hotel-room locks.
What do you do at HiViz?
Senior Embedded Systems Engineer
Start Date: 4/21/25
Describe your work/day-to-day: My core function is to convert caffeine into embedded software as efficiently as possible.
What drew you to HiViz?
I wanted to return to a “startup” kind of environment, where my experience can be of use to others (even if only in a cautionary way!)
Where are you from originally?
I was born in Newaygo County Michigan to a single mom. Mom later married an amazing, kind, hard-working man who has been my dad since I was 4 years old. Mom and Dad have 80 acres outside of Grant, Michigan where my kids and I hunt, hike, and work on cars.
What is a food combination people eat frequently that you can’t get behind?
Brussel sprouts
Best advice you were given?
Don’t waste your time arguing with an idiot.
Would you rather always talk like a robot or always walk like a crab?
I am already used to talking like a robot, so it would take the least amount of change on my part.
